Research Simulation Process: Beginning

For the research simulation topic I chose to focus on the power of parents in building a healthy social-emotional development for their child. This is interesting to me because as a direct source of information of the child; parents sometimes aren’t aware of the extent that their behavior and attitudes helps or hinders their child’s development. Researching more about this topic will give me the tools to better work with parents, as well as working with the child in the classroom.

I must say that things that are challenging are the ones that stick to your head. I had to read the article “Shyness and emotion-processing skills in preschoolers” several times to understand it. Did any of you have trouble understanding the outcome of the research? I understood the method, but not so sure if I hit the conclusion part.

Revisiting the article this week made me aware of some details that I missed last week. So my overall experience has been beneficial, though, it took me some time to get used to it. Constructing my research chart has helped me greatly because I use it as a reference and helps me to navigate more confidently into the research world.

As always I offer the best of my capabilities to help you all, and I’m sure you’ll do the same for me.

  1. When I was attempting to choose a topic to research for this course, I admit that the role of parents was one of my top choices! I have experienced the power that parents have in the lives of children. When parents are involved, children are more successful. This is a great topic, and I am sure that you will be able to find a lot of great research. Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way!

  2. Elisa,

Thanks for the post this week. I found it very interesting to read. I totally agree with you that sometimes it is very difficult for parents to actually understand that the behavior of their child may be limiting the child's development. I experience this first hand everyday. Children sometimes have a hard time expressing themselves, resulting in behavioral issues. As a parent, what is the first step in monitoring and assisting your child with behavior issues?

  3. Hello Elisa,
It is so great to be in the same class and feel that I am among old friends who will continue to support each other. It always brings me joy to read your posts because they come from the heart and from experience.
What a great research topic and how useful! Parents and children will greatly benefit from your findings. I wish I could go back a few years and better my own parenting skills after reading your research. I share the same experience regarding the chart: it helps me better grasp what is involved in research, and step by step which is exactly what I need.
I will certainly ask for your help in the near future. Thank you for your offer!
